OverTindered and Underwhelmed?

In the week when Tinder announced it will launch a paid for service, Dating-Experts reveals that 61% of the App's Users are already Tired of Tinder

Don't like a profile on Tinder? Simply swipe left and the unwanted match disappears for ever. According to a new survey, a majority of Tinder users may soon be swiping left on the entire app. They are tired of Tinder, the mobile dating sensation that is widely considered a must-have for British singles.

Dating-Experts' new survey says:

  • 61% of Tinder users are bored by the app
  • 66% of women are tired of Tinder v. 55% of men
  • Younger groups (under 35s) were most fed up with Tinder
  • 85% of women are tired of over explicit messaging from men on Tinder
  • 83% of men are looking for sex on Tinder
  • Despite all the objections 57% of respondents said they were likely to keep using Tinder

Boring messages
“Tinder may becoming a victim of its own ubiquity, as there are more and more people on the service, but still very little profile information available to help users navigate all the choices. Our survey suggests Tinder users often don’t have enough to say to each other and are misaligned in their dating intentions.” – George Sanders. UK Manager. Dating-Experts
The majority of users felt that boring messages were the biggest problem (70%), and also complained about a lack of responses to messages sent (54%). This was especially true for men, 73% of whom found this a problem. The biggest concern for female respondents on the other hand, was that they are far more likely to receive unwanted offensive or sexually explicit messages. 85% of them complained about this, versus only 25% of the male respondents.

Uncertainty about what Tinder is for
Perhaps unsurprisingly a critical mass of 69% are on Tinder to find sex. However, more men are on Tinder to get laid (83%) than women (55%). Female users are more likely to be looking for something as innocent as friendship (52%) than men (23%). The fact that most participants chose more than one option (multiple replies to this question were allowed) could explain the users' dissatisfaction.
George Sanders again: “One of the drawbacks of Tinder is that people don’t know what the expectations of other users are. Are they looking for a one night stand or something more serious? Users have to make their own rules on Tinder and this can be confusing or embarrassing when people with different ideas of what a Tinder date is, meet up.”

Will New Premium features help reinvigorate Tinder?
Even though the majority of users are dissatisfied with Tinder, 57% of participants want to continue using the app….
"It’s very interesting to speculate on what Tinder’s new ‘Premium’ features might do to address the concerns raised in the survey. We can see that despite being fed up with the app, users are reluctant to leave it. Many Tinder users are online dating first timers and maybe unaware of how many other, more content rich options are out on the market. As Tinder starts to monetize, the question will be whether people start switching to these other providers, or whether they will remain loyal, and be prepared to pay for a better Tinder." George Sanders

*A total of 1608 Tinder users in the United Kingdom completed an online survey. More details and charts can be found online: http://www.dating-experts.co.uk/tinder-study
