Summary
About Match
A very well established player in the UK market. Match.com claims to be ‘the site most recommended by singles’ and has been bringing couples together in the UK for well over a decade. A traditional matchmaking service it emphasises the quality of its matching system which allows for some special searches, such as by keyword and hobby. The site’s core appeal is to the 30+ professionals market and the focus is on looking to find a life partner.
Recently match in the UK has been branching out into offline dating, organizing singles parties of their members in locations around the country. This has done much to give this traditional matchmaker some fresh appeal.
There are not a lot of fancy features on the match site. It is a fairly plain layout with a list of profiles to search through and simple messaging options. One slightly more exciting feature is the ‘Daily 6’ – this shows you 6 new profile pictures every day and offers you the chance to ‘like’ them and get in touch.
Match.com was one of the first dating sites on online market, starting in the United States in 1995. It has been live in the UK since 2001. Match claims to have over 15 million customers in 240 countries around the world. Match.com joined up with Meetic.com in 2009 and now its services appear under at least two other names, all linking to the same database: datingdirect and meetic.
The registration process is relatively simple and easy to complete. There are few obligatory text entries required and most of the questions are straightforward with only radio buttons to check. Another advantage is that you can skip the full registration process on your first visit and look around the site a bit before you commit to completing your profile (time required est.15-20 mins).
Match seems to be fairly successful in getting customers to complete their profiles and upload pictures. There is not a huge amount of information, but enough to make some first judgment about who you would like to get to know and to give you some ideas for conversation openers.
You can register and set your profile up on match totally free, and also search through your matches. However, if you want to communicate you will need to subscribe to their premium service which comes in at between £13 and £30 depending on duration.
All subscriptions automatically renew until cancelled.
Customer Service is available via e-mail template.

Match at a glance.
- Well established brand.
- Easy to register and create a profile.
- Well filled profiles with lots of pictures.
- Adverts for other services throughout the product.
- Messy and unpleasing layout. Unnecessarily confusing for a site that only has a few features.
