Christmas Love

Christmas is a time of giving and, for many singles, grieving. Another year on the shelf, another opportunity to spend time with your better established relatives, complete with loving relationships and boisterous children. The sense of desperation only accentuated by the sheer lack of anything to do in the Christmas week - bar naval gaze and feel sorry for yourself. But is there really any need for this self-imposed dry spell?

Christmas, I’m not loving it

Your classic singles yuletide kicks off with the hangover of the last pre-Christmas drinks. From here, the festive single stares out across a long period devoid of opportunity or excitement until the inevitable New Year’s all-nighter release. This down period can last as long as two weeks in the worst case scenarios, and for many it involves being removed from their normal lives entirely, going back to family homes that are often a long way from friends or gyms or other day-to-day activities.

This festive void can be tracked in the typical trading patterns of internet dating firms, who see activity dip right out during the first four or five days of Christmas only to surge to year highs immediately afterwards. January is the best month for many dating sites as singles’ efforts are redoubled in a flurry of activity and resolutions – the storm after the calm.

Finding a bit of Christmas love

So how to avoid this emotional rollercoaster and tackle the Christmas love blues? Well it may seem a natural time to take a break from the dating game and to concentrate on matters more spiritual or indeed spending time with relatives. However, while no-one is suggesting spending Christmas day swiping through Tinder profiles, there is also no need to regard the whole Christmas holidays as a period of online dating embargo. For many of us there are fewer moments when we have more free time for messaging and dating, nor really more desire to do so. It is inhibitions that are holding us back when actually a Christmas date would be great!

This is even more true if you’re away from your normal circle of friends. A Chrimstmas date could be a great chance to meet people in a new area – perhaps an area where you would like to have more connections.

Won’t say no, how could I, it’s Christmas

What’s more, if you do decide to keep online dating or even start online dating this Christmas you’ll probably find there a lots of others out there who are also looking for a bit of Christmas love. Your chances of getting someone to agree to go out on a date with you could be better than ever!
