About Hitch
Hitch is a tool that encourages your friends to introduce their friends to you. ‘Why do I need an app for this!?’ I hear you cry. Well here’s a simple question: Do you have single friends that you think might get along that you have not actively introduced to each other? Well there you go then – there is a place for this new app.
Like so many of the new dating offerings Hitch is about making mobile dating less anonymous and less like hard work. A match with a friend of a friend is much less random and based on you existing social networks, and it is much likely to result in a date with someone you get along with. After all, its rude to say no to a friend of a friend…
Hitch is not the only dating service to rely heavily on Facebook for its matching, but its approach is a bit different. Firstly a Hitch is an introduction from one of your Facebook friends to one of theirs, so it really only works on an introductions basis. Secondly, once you have a Hitch, you don't actually know who the other person is until you mutually agree to reveal that information to one another. In other words, if you don't like the person you have been introduced to, you can find that out before you reveal identities and exchange photos - saving any awkwardness within friendship groups.
"That's what friends are for" is one of the taglines on the Hitch home page. However, sometimes friends do need a little nudge to get them to play the matchmaking game on your behalf. Hitch does this and in a manner that is designed to cause least social embarrassment should the suggestion not work out.
