Summary
Our recommendation for more success
eharmony does have a long registration process, so be prepared for this. You might need as much as 15 or 20 mins to complete the registration process fully.
But it is worth it! - this long registration process delivers better matching and ensures all members have full and interesting profiles.
About eharmony
eharmony is well established in the UK market as one of the most scientifically sound matching sites with lots of questions and features to help narrow your search. If you really want a site that does most of the work for you, then this is the right choice. There is little or no requirement to sell yourself and all matching is conducted based on answers you give during a fairly lengthy, but interesting registration questionnaire. At the end of it all, you need only set up your profile in their very nicely designed site and wait for your specially selected matches to trickle into your inbox.
The eharmony matching system has a good claim to being amongst the most robust of all the big matchmakers. Its algorithm is based on research and learnings by an American clinical psychologist who worked as a relationship counsellor for 35 years and on UK specific research conducted in partnership with the University of Oxford. The result is a questionnaire that is one of the most detailed and sophisticated on the market and if you believe in the power of psychoanalysis, this site is probably for you.
eharmony was first launched in the United States in 2000, but has been live in the UK since 2008 and is now well established as one of the big matching sites.
eharmony runs one of the most beautifully designed websites on the internet and it is a real pleasure to use. There are so many dating sites out there that neglect the upkeep and modernisation of their core product, but eharmony is a welcome exception. The use of full screen images and fresh vector graphics extends beyond the landing pages and registration pages, and can be found throughout, helping you enjoy the product for as long as you use it and, for example, making every customers profile look attractive and well laid out.
The registration process with eharmony is quite long (30mins), but interesting and enjoyable to complete (again partly because of the great design). The questions are psychological in nature and really make you think about yourself (Lots of questions about how you perceive yourself and how you feel on a daily basis).
However, be warned that eharmony does not accept all registrations! It is possible to spend half an hour or more completing the registration process only to be told at the end that you have not been accepted into the site. Some commentators have estimated that the eharmony rejection rate is as high as 20%! (eharmony does not say what its criteria are for rejecting people, but it is fairly common knowledge that saying you are already married is one thing that is likely to see you excluded). The flip side of this is that it’s a clear sign of integrity from eharmony, who are rejecting potentially lucrative customers by doing this (there are not many dating sites out there that would be this scrupulous)
Eharomony tends to ration its delivery of matches to your inbox, sending you some new suggestions when it has them for you, but not presenting you with an instant list of matches. It is the one of the few, if not the only site to do this and this emphasises the long-haul approach of the site. Eharmony wants you to take you time and commit to the process.
Once the profiles arrive, they are full of information. This is no surprise given their lengthy registration questionnaire. They have plenty of information to display about everybody who signs up. Even so, you will be regularly prompted to provide yet more information once you are logged in. This is done in a variety of ways, including polls and quizzes that can be enjoyable to complete. You certainly are unlikely to find yourself short of thing to discuss with a match with this high level of information sharing.
There is a lot you can do for free on the site. In fact you can do almost everything, except converse freely with your matches! For this you will need to purchase one eharmony’s subscription packages.
There is also a mobile app that is very popular and much talked about (again for its design excellence).
All subscriptions will automatically renew until you cancel them.
